John Tarley, Jr
Born in Fairmont, West Virginia, on July 8, 1960, Mr. Tarley was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1992. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1982, and his MBA from Pennsylvania State University in 1983. He received his Law Degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law of the College of William & Mary in 1992, where he served as Board Editor of the William & Mary Law Review. Mr. Tarley's practice includes civil litigation in areas such as real property, commercial and residential landlord/tenant issues, labor law, employer/employee disputes, and contracts. Mr. Tarley also maintains a successful commercial practice, including counseling and advice to our business clients on lease negotiations, and drafting personnel manuals. Mr. Tarley frequently appears before the local planning committees on a variety of zoning and building issues important to STRT's clients. Mr. Tarley is an adjunct professor at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law and is a Commissioner in Chancery for the Ninth Judicial District. Mr. Tarley has lectured on employment matters and writes our firm’s newsletter. Mr. Tarley has been active in the community and has served for eight years on the Board of Directors for the non-profit Williamsburg Montessori School, including six years as the Chair. Currently, Mr. Tarley serves as the Vice President of the Williamsburg Bar Association and also serves on the Board of Directors for the non-profit Williamsburg Soccer Club. Mr. Tarley is also member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers and the American Bar Association.
